Description
This helmet was picked up in its raw form off of a member of the 405th Halo Costuming Community board. What it was received, the helmet had several ships and cracks along the lower edge, and there were several thin spots in the cast. These areas were cleaned up and reinforced with fiberglass.

Additional details not present in the original cast, such as the raised portions on either side of the visor and the details on the lower portion of the back of the helmet were actually created using craft foam that was coated in fiberglass resin to give it strength, durability, and tear resistance.

It was decided that this piece was going to be a static display prop, and as such, visibility was not an issue when attempting to create the “dual layer” appearance to the visor. To create the dual layer look of the games, a stencil was generated off of in game screen shots, scaled to the appropriate sized, and used as a template to cut out the recessed portions of the visor. A second layer of plastic was then glued in behind the original visor, creating the depth to create the appearance of a dual layered visor.

The helmet was weathered using the layered paint method for the silver scratches and dents, and acrylic paint washes for the grime and dirt look on the helmet.
